Community Centres
Following the end of World War 11, Rotary (in conjunction with other organizations and Municipal bodies) launched a campaign for the building of a War Memorial Community Centre. The nucleus for the fund was a bequest from the estate of a local citizen, understood to be $10,000. The local newspaper, "The Hants Journal" of July 14, 1951, recorded that Colin Taylor took over the Community Centre Chairmanship from Sherred Willis. The Rotary Club had early pledged a sum of money which was fulfilled, with a total of $11,622.74. This was apart from contributions which individual members of the Club put into the project. After the building was completed, Rotary in Windsor financed improvements and furnishings, such as an electric organ and seating. In the nineteen-sixties the need for improved kitchen facilities was met by the Club at a cost of $7,000.
The Community Centres in Hantsport, Falmouth and Three Mile Plains have been given financial assistance totalling several thousands of dollars, over many years. These areas are within the Club's district,-and splendid support is received from them annually for the Radio Auction.
In 1991, our Club started to assist the new Eldridge Road Park in Falmouth - contributing $1000 yearly. Rotarian Jim McAllister has been prominently involved.
