Senior Citizen's Bus
Our Club became involved in this project in 1984. Prior to then a bus had been available to Seniors in Windsor for several years. The service had been provided first by Mr. Grant Boyd, Windsor; and then by Perry Rand Ltd. of Kentville. The Rotary Club of Kentville took it over for awhile but the bus needed expensive repairs, and the bus was transferred to Windsor.
In February, 1985, the Windsor Senior Citizens' Bus Society was formed. Our Club has been represented in the Society from the beginning, by Rotarian Bob Brooks. A Provincial Government grant of $2,500 was obtained towards the bus repairs. The Club has provided funds annually for expenses, ranging from $500 to $1,000.
In 1988, the Bus Society decided that the bus had to be replaced and a campaign for funds was started. Our Club pledged $5,000 to this fund, of which $2,500 was paid as of mid-1989. The new bus was purchased in 1990.
Our Club has supported bus operation most years with a donation of $1,500. Our 2003 Auction Special Fund raised $4,605 for a new bus.
