Adventure in Citizenship: A Rotary Tradition

For more than 50 years, the Rotary Club of Windsor has proudly sponsored a local student to attend Rotary’s Adventure in Citizenship program. Each year, approximately 200 students from Rotary Clubs across Canada gather in Ottawa for four days of learning, leadership, and exploration. The program is designed to deepen their understanding of Canada’s diversity and strengthen their appreciation of the privileges and responsibilities of Canadian citizenship.

A National Learning Experience

Organized by the Rotary Club of Ottawa, the program offers exceptional access to Canada’s democratic institutions. Participants typically engage in discussions with the Speaker of the House of Commons and parliamentary staff, meet with Canadian and foreign diplomats, and tour the Parliament Buildings. A highlight of the experience is attending a special sitting of the Citizenship Court, where students witness new Canadians taking their oath of citizenship.

Beyond the formal program, students enjoy guided tours of Ottawa, cultural evenings featuring traditional food and performances, and a student‑led talent showcase celebrating the diverse abilities of participants.

Upon returning home, our sponsored student presents their reflections to the Rotary Club of Windsor—an opportunity we always look forward to. Their insights allow us to share in the highlights of this unique and memorable national experience.
